ELLE Korea ft. Chanel

2018.09.04 | Interview

"There is no distinction between man and God, there is no distinction between woman and man"

When I first received a proposal for a campaign model for "Boy de Chanel", I thought:

"Me in Chanel Beauty?" It was unnerving, but it felt good. I'm launching my first men's makeup line and I was thankful to be the first person to announce this. He hoped it would be a good experience working with the foreign staff of the Paris headquarters team. When we got there, it was definitely different from our work style and emotions, so we were confused at first, but we soon got used to it and had fun as a result. Anyway, I've seen the results a while ago and I'm glad everyone said they were great.

The launch of "Boy de Chanel" is not only a makeup line for men, but its meaning and symbolism run deep. "BEING SOLO, with the slogan of YOU", proposes a new style of beauty for men that breaks with existing conventions and creates new rules. Also, at Chanel, they might even raise questions about femininity and masculinity, which are being redefined in the contemporary era.

When I found out about this before filming, I thought, "This is a heavier story than I thought." At first, it was a makeup line for men, so I thought, "I need to pay attention to my skin" (laughs) but, one of the reasons I became a model was to show that men who wear makeup are for all men, not just a few. The phrase "Just be yourself, only better" really caught my eye.

So is Lee Dong Wook, a man who is not an actor, a man who wears makeup, or is it perhaps his job?

I want to encourage men to try beauty care for their health, not just their appearance. How can you protect your skin just by putting on sunscreen when the sun is hot like these days, and can you prevent your lips from chapping and bleeding just by making a habit of applying lip balm?

Speaking of lips, there is something about the secret (Lee Dong Wook's skin and lips seen up close are really amazing)

Lip color is naturally like this, and it is good to sleep on enough lip balm before going to bed at night. Men who have chapped lips when it's cold, take note. It is very painful to leave aesthetics.

Before filming started, I made a pretty difficult request. "Neither man nor woman, neither god nor human, neither boy nor man ... Please play with the beauty of that gap. But when I look at it that closely, it really does look like this.

Oh no, it's all makeup (laughs). I probably have a lot of time to take care of myself. You should be interested in decorating it naturally. In fact, I like to drink and eat. However, I can't slow down due to my work, so I exercise and exercise in moderation.

This "Boy de Chanel" consists of three essential elements: foundation, lip balm and eyebrow pencil.

First of all, it can be difficult for men to use foundation, but these days BB creams are used a lot. It's similar. It's very light and comes on naturally, and it even has the sunscreen feature that I emphasized a while ago. The lip balm is applied in a matte, non-greasy finish for use by men. And isn't the case really cool?

If there is something that matters to you when it comes to makeup, there is nothing special ... It is important to erase well.

In the past, I only washed my face once, but these days, I wash my first and second faces well with cleansing water or cream. Now that I am older, I need to take care of my skin.

If I were to describe a teenager, a young man in his 20s and a man in his 30s and 40s, Lee Dong Wook in his late teens was kind.

There was no deviation or rebellion, and he was an ordinary student who received the Employee Award for 12 years. Then after having the dream of becoming an actor, he debuted at the age of 19 and opened a new era to hatch a common egg. I worked hard for only 10 years and enlisted in the military at the age of 29. When I looked back after enlisting, I realized that I was actually just working with a lot of responsibilities. I think Lee Dong Wook in his 30s is on his way to finding himself. What I like, what I hate, what I'm good at ... Shaking off the anxiety of the 20s and preparing for the 40s. Lee Dong Wook in his 40s, well ... I just want him to be healthy.

Today's topic was "Person". Is the public's opinion of me and the real me very different?

Well, the audience only sees my decorated appearance. Actually, I am a house doll that does not decorate well. When I don't have a schedule, it's best to stay home. When you go out, you go out with a hardened heart and walk in to see three or four things at once.

How many days have you stayed, 8 days that you will do your housework well?

Cook, clean, whatever.

After "Goblin" ended last year, she went to Paris Fashion Week and added the title of fashionista.

The local reaction and the domestic reaction that saw it in real time was great, and I was surprised too. Local photojournalists at first thought they were just Asian celebrities, but when the screams erupted here and there, they were baptized with the flash. His expression was elegant, but inside he felt really good. He cheers and acknowledges, so he makes me feel at ease, signing autographs and taking pictures of me.

I like the modifier of being a fashion icon.

I am very interested in fashion and it is good because the response is instantaneous. I am also curious. Now I have to get used to the title of a beauty icon.

When do I feel most masculine? When do I get my work done to the end?

I'm good at grumbling and it seems like I'm a bit rude, but ... After watching it all the time, it's a "tsundere" style that everyone hears, isn't it? Anyway, in the end, I think it is manly and I do the job well and be satisfied with the result. All I see on the screen is me, but there is a lot of staff behind it. even for them.

Filming for "Life" will be ending soon, but the things I want to do in the new season are things I've been putting off.

I have to meet the fans and I have to film various things. You also have to work hard. And I want to go on a trip. I went there for about 2 weeks last year and it was very good. The comfort of not having to do anything in an unfamiliar place. Usually, when I go abroad to film, I get up at what time and prepare myself until what time, I shoot ... It's tight. But if you don't want to go out, you can walk around the hotel all day. Ah, after talking about it, he's finally home again (laughs).
